Walking the Way of the Cross: A Lenten Devotion at St. Anne’s Parish

During the season of Lent, the Church invites us to walk more closely with Christ through prayer, repentance, and reflection on His Passion.

One of the most beloved Lenten devotions is the Way of the Cross, also known as the Stations of the Cross. In this prayerful devotion, we spiritually accompany Jesus on His journey to Calvary, meditating on the suffering He endured for the salvation of the world.

Each station invites us to pause and reflect on Christ’s sacrifice and to unite our own struggles, burdens, and hopes with His Cross.

At St. Anne’s Parish, we gather every Friday during Lent to pray the Stations of the Cross together. This devotion helps us prepare our hearts for the mystery of Christ’s Passion and the joy of His Resurrection.

What Is the Way of the Cross?

The Way of the Cross is a traditional devotion that traces the final moments of Jesus’ earthly life—from His condemnation by Pontius Pilate to His burial in the tomb.

Christians have prayed these stations for centuries, especially during Lent, as a way of meditating on the depth of God’s love revealed through the Passion of Christ.

Through Scripture, prayer, and reflection, we remember that Jesus willingly embraced the Cross for the redemption of humanity.

Praying the Stations During Lent

The Way of the Cross reminds us that Christ walks with us in our suffering. When we meditate on His Passion, we learn how to carry our own crosses with faith, humility, and trust in God.

This devotion invites us to reflect on the great love Christ has shown for us and to respond with deeper faith and gratitude.
