From Hosanna to the Cross: Entering Holy Week with Jesus
We welcome Him with palms in our hands…
But will we follow Him with our hearts?
On Palm Sunday, we remember Jesus entering Jerusalem—
not in power or prestige, but in humility.
Riding on a donkey, He is greeted by a crowd filled with hope,
waving palm branches and crying out:
“Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!”
It is a moment of joy.
A moment of recognition.
A moment that feels like victory.
And yet…
We know how the story unfolds.
The Tension of Palm Sunday
The same voices that shout “Hosanna!”
will soon grow quiet.
Some will turn away.
Others will cry out, “Crucify Him.”
Palm Sunday holds this quiet tension—
a tension that is not just part of the Gospel story,
but part of our own lives.
Because if we are honest,
we, too, can be like the crowd.
We welcome Jesus when He brings comfort,
when He answers our prayers,
when life feels hopeful and full.
But what about when the road becomes difficult?
When following Him asks something of us?
When faith requires trust, surrender, or sacrifice?
More Than a Celebration An Invitation
Palm Sunday is not only a celebration.
It is an invitation.
An invitation to move beyond admiration…
and into discipleship.
To not just walk with Jesus in moments of praise,
but to remain with Him on the road to the Cross.
Because the path He takes after entering Jerusalem
is not one of earthly triumph—
But love poured out completely.
🌿 From the waving of palms…
✝️ to the weight of the Cross…
✨ to the promise of the Resurrection.
This is the journey of Holy Week.
And we are invited to walk it with Him.
🌿 Walking Through Holy Week
Holy Week is not meant to be observed from a distance.
It is meant to be lived.
As a parish community, we are given these sacred days
to slow down, to reflect, and to draw near to Christ.
Here are a few simple ways to enter in more deeply:
Be present at Mass and liturgies
Make time for silence and prayer
Receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation
Reflect on the Passion of Christ
Offer small sacrifices
These are not obligations—
They are invitations to draw closer.
🌿 A Question for the Heart
Palm Sunday gently asks each of us:
Do I only welcome Jesus when it is easy…
Or will I follow Him when it is difficult?
Where is He inviting me to trust more?
To surrender more?
To love more deeply?
🌿 A Prayer for the Journey
Lord Jesus,
we welcome You with joy.
But teach us to remain with You—
not only in moments of praise,
but also in moments of sacrifice.
When the road becomes heavy,
give us faith.
When the Cross appears,
Give us courage.
When we are tempted to turn away,
draw us closer to Your heart.
Walk with us this Holy Week, Lord,
that we may walk with You—
all the way to the Cross…
and into the joy of the Resurrection.
Amen.
🌿 Let Us Walk With Him
Palm Sunday is not the end of the story.
It is only the beginning.
This week, may we not remain in the crowd—
but become true followers.
🌿 Hosanna today.
✝️ Faithful through the Cross.
✨ Alive in the Resurrection.
